Did you know that Herbalife recommends a high-protein diet as the leading lifestyle choice? This is a very common practice and actually is known as the 60-10-30 diet which translates to 60% carbohydrates, 10% fat, and 30% protein (which are macronutrients). Based on your caloric intake, these recommendations would provide you with plenty of energy, vitamins, minerals, and even promote fat loss. If this lifestyle change is something you're interested in trying for yourself or if you're just curious on some information ... I would love to set up a time to do a nutritional assessment on you! Feel free to send me an email here. Kayla Reynolds, BS, Holistic Nutritionist (Cand.)

Sugar is an important part of a person's diet - in moderation. (So not an entire cake!) The American Heart Association says that we should consume no more than 36 grams of sugar per day (for a man). On average, an American consumes approximately 150 grams of sugar per day - more than 4 times the recommend amount! To put it into perspective, a 12 oz. can of Coca-Cola contains about 39g of sugar or about 10 teaspoons! *There's a difference between added sugar and naturally-occuring sugar - for this article we are referencing to added sugar! Naturally-occuring sugar is most commonly found in fruit or dairy. Added sugars are other products that have had sugar added to the ingredients. There are other ways we infect our body systems with added sugar. The newest trend, sugar scrubs, are not as effective as we once thought! Everything you put onto your skin is absorbed subcutaneously into the blood stream! Not only that but sugar scrubs provide a false sense of security - doing more harm than good. Carefree Organic states that "while the oil in the scrub gives you a false sense of nice healthy skin, you have actually just taken moisture out of your healthy skin cells, replaced it with sugar, and possibly caused these healthy skin cells to dry out quicker." Wow! Next time you think about using sugar either internally or externally, ask yourself if it's beneficial or harmful to your body. In addition to being harmful to the skin, Dr. Mercola says that "the overconsumption of sugar is increasingly being linked to brain-related health issues such as depression, learning disorders, memory problems and overeating." Not only that but sugar effects the brain in a way that is similar to addictive drugs. It's not always your fault you're craving cookies at 2 am, but you can help release your brain from this addictive habit. An incredible essential oil blend from doTERRA called "Slim and Sassy" does just that. It is a proprietary metabolic blend to promote a healthy metabolism, help manage cravings, and promote an uplifting mood. This oil blend is NOT a diuretic, stimulant, or diet aide. Try putting a few drops in water in the morning or when you have cravings. Be sure to use a glass or metal cup to prevent leaking plastic into your body! My favorite is below.

Many of us have learned that coffee is the best option when it comes to consuming caffeine. According to Dr. Mercola, "coffee can prevent type 2 diabetes, may help those with parkinsons, benefit brain health, and is natural antioxidant." These things are fine and dandy, however, caffeine of any source consumed regularly can still do harmful things.
According to Summer Munday, "coffee strips your body of essential minerals and puts your body at risk for deficiencies." These are not good things! She also states that "creating artificial energy by putting your body in a sympathetic state causes a cascade of biological dysfunction." She's basically stating that by drinking/consuming caffeine puts your body into an artificial state of high energy. There are a number of good reasons to quit drinking coffee or caffeine in general. These include helping your body reset it's internal clock with melatonin and seratonin levels, reducing higher levels of cortisol, and the satisfaction of not relying on caffeine to get through the day. Not drinking coffee or caffeine at all is a struggle to do cold-turkey. My recommendation would be to gradually decrease the amount you consume and switch to herbal teas. Chamomile is a soothing tea that will naturally reduce cortisol levels and help ease you to sleep. My favorite is below!
While you reduce your caffeine consumption, be sure to increase your water intake. Read more about the importance of water here.

And, I totally agree with them and stand behind that water is the most important thing you consume. Your body is made up of over 60% water which is in your joints, ligaments, muscle, and organs! However, every person is a different size and shape, and therefore requires different amounts of water.
The standard of water is 2 liters or about 1 gallon. This number can vary based on the persons age, muscle content, and exercise level. The Mayo Clinic says that an average man should consume about 13 cups or 3 liters where the average female stays at 2 liters. There are quite a few health benefits in addition to soothing your internal organs which include increased energy, promotes weight loss, flushing out toxins, improve skin complexion, maintain regularity, boost immune system, and more! If you don't like the taste of water, you can add in doTERRA essential oils for extra health benefits and they taste good! Some oils you can add include Slim & Sassy, grapefruit, lemon, lime, or peppermint. Check out these oils here or message me for a free 1-on-1 consultation!
